Are you still running Windows XP?

Microsoft support for this venerable OS expired on 8 April, 2014, so this means you will not receive any further updates or patches. It is time to upgrade!

Most XP machines are capable of running Windows 7 or 8, but will do so on antiquated hardware. Electronic devices are usually good for 5-8 years, some last longer, but they will fail at the most inopportune time. And without good backups, I know you do those religiously, all your data is gone.

PC prices have plummeted with the advent of the tablet, so a relatively powerful machine can be bought for 3-4 hundred bucks. Microsoft includes a utility for transferring your data from the old machine to new, and it is easy to use.

For the adventurous types, tablets running Windows 8, Android and Apple are available in all shapes and size, and budgets.

Whatever you do, if you are still on XP, now is a great time to upgrade to a newer, faster computer.
